Cracks are a big fear for most woodwind players. Unless you play on a plastic clarinet or greenline, cracks can occur at any time even after many years of crack-free service.

Cracks can occur anytime
The biggest problem is that cracks can occur suddenly, making the instrument unplayable due to the leaks they cause. It might even happen during a performance, and qualified repair people might be hard to get in touch with just when you need them.

The L&P Prevention
The L&P tone hole crack prevention reduces this risk to a minimum. The most common place a clarinet will crack is through the four top tone-holes. Cracks are always caused by tension resulting from the moisture. Moisture penetrates the wood and makes it swell. The L&P tone hole crack prevention stops that from happening and reduces the risk dramatically.

If a crack goes through a tone hole, air will be able to escape through the crack underneath the pad. L&P tone hole crack prevention replaces the wooden tone hole with a crack-free tone hole made of impenetrable material that prevents cracks from happening. Should the crack be so big that air could escape alongside the tone hole, the musician can provide some quick maintenance by either covering the crack with tape or applying 10-second superglue on it. The player could continue to play and get it cleaned up nicely whenever the time allows.
