L&P Registertube

The problem
The clarinet's Bb or register tube must function as a duodecim / octave hole and as a tone hole. As a result of this compromise, the acoustic result is not always completely satisfactory. In addition, the tube that projects into the bore increases resistance and creates turbulence.

Solutions
There are two ways to solve the problems.
1. We can add a Bb resonance mechanism
that works great but increases the instrument weight slightly and is more expensive than the tube solution.
2. We have developed a triple-conical register tube that helps to improve all of these problem areas, is cheaper and can be installed quickly. Due to its construction, it has a lower blowing resistance than the original tube. We can pull the tube further out so that it does not protrude too far into the hole and eliminate unnecessary turbulence.

Result
The Bb sounds clearer and has fewer annoying noises. The resistance of the instrument is reduced in a pleasant way, the upper register responds more easily. It's a great pod worth trying out. We leave the original tube untouched so that you can always return if you don't like the new tube.

Material
The tube is available in nickel silver, brass, solid silver, Delrin or gold-plated. After intensive tests with musicians of various styles and sound concepts, we could not find any sound improvement due to the material. The shape and dimensions of the bore, however, had a significant impact.
Our recommendation is nickel silver because it is the strongest of these materials and has the least wear from wiping.

Tube change
To ensure proper sealing, the tube should be installed by an experienced repairer.
