About this model in general:
Buffet Crampon has revolutionised the student clarinet! Now, beginners on a budget can start out with a professional sound. Essential qualities of the Prodige clarinet are tone, ergonomics and reliability.
For the first time in this range, the required operations for creating good acoustics, especially the moulding and drilling of the bore, are performed entirely in France and Germany to ensure a consistent result.
Prodiges new bore, inspired by the renowned E 13 model, allows an unprecedented ease of play and projection of sound. The intervals between notes are pitch-perfect and balanced.
Its bell has also been entirely reworked in order to optimise projection. Our innovation: a textured bore.
It is now possible for a young musician to learn to play on a professional-sounding clarinet at a reasonable price.


Lohff & Pfeiffer comments to the model:
The Buffet Crampon B12 is the legendary student clarinet from Buffet, which was made in ABS plastic.
It was first developed and produced at the German Buffet plant in Nauheim Walter Schreiber & Söhne.After the reunification of Germany was the production moved to its new plant in Markneukirchen. The corpus was produced by Roedel in Gehlnhausen. Finally everything moved to China, where the new successor Prodige and Premium are manufactured.
The bore is 14.85mm wide and allows a free airflow with little resistance, optimal for beginners and young players. The dynamic range is stable from piano to forte and helps the student get accustomed to reliable intonation. The wide bore allows the use of closed mouthpieces without the feel of too much resistance. See also Clarinet bores and sounds.

The B12 was available in black ABS plastic and on request in clear, transparent ABS with copper plated keys. Originally the B 12 had a smooth plastic surface contrary to the brushed B13 which surface has a more wooden look. As the production of the B 13 was stopped ,the B12 for the brushed surface. The B12 as well as the B 13 were available with an additional left hand Eb/Ab lever on demand.
