About this model in general:
Of all the people who have made their mark in the history of Buffet Crampon, Robert Carr_e is without doubt one of the most important. He dedicated his career to perfecting the musical instrument artistically as well as mechanically. Creator of legendary instruments such as the French bassoon and the Dynaction saxophone, he revolutionised the world of the clarinet with the development of a new line with a unique, poly-cylindrical bore.
The RC model, already the world reference, received a redesign in 2014, benefitting from ten years of acoustical research and development.
The overall intonation of the instrument has been reviewed and enhanced to better adapt to the ever-increasing demands of the musician. Its warm, centred tone, projection, and its improved evenness of response and intonation will give pure satisfaction to musicians aspiring to a professional level or wanting to play the top of the line.

Lohff & Pfeiffer comments to the model:

The Buffet Crampon RC is a professional clarinet and has a wider bore (14.65mm) than the R13. Robert Carrée, whose initials gave the model its name, developed it in 1974. A different barrel, bell and the wider bore of 14,65mm distinguishes it from the R13. It is available in 440Hz, 442Hz, and 444 Hz. The serial number on the high pitch instruments starts with an F. It is built-in A, Bb, and Eb.

The RC was traditionally very popular in Europe, but is now played throughout the world, as it is available in lower pitches. The sound is rich, full and warm with beautiful overtones. The sound color varies depending on the individual bore-shape and tone hole proportion. The wider bore reduces the resistance a player will feel compared with a narrow-bored instrument. It appeals to many players who played on older, free-playing R 13's. The RC can be played with a less open mouthpiece and harder reeds without feeling too resistant. The RC Prestige and Divine are further advanced models of the same basic bore concept.

The RC is available with and without the left hand Eb/Ab key.

NEW,Since 2016 are all Buffet Pro-clarinets equipped with an adjusting screw for the left-hand F/C key. This enables the player to adjust occurring disturbing key-play on that key. Lohff and Pfeiffer offer this feature since the 80th as an option and can be added to older instruments.

The R13 as well as the RC-models are available in African Blackwood or Greenline. The wooden ones have a black stained surface, to give them an even look, independent from the original color of the different body parts. This has no influence on the sound. To reduce the risk of cracking, Lohff & Pfeiffer offer the tone hole crack prevention for all wooden instruments as an option.

Originally was the RC logo engraved in the top joint. The newer models have a silverplated sign with the RC logo similar to the Festival and Prestige models. For additional options check out our options list at the bottom of this page.
