About the model
Fortified by its elegance and incomparable style, the Tosca clarinet, designed by Michel Arrignon, is the fruit of extensive experience and innovation.
One of Buffet Crampon s greatest strengths is its capacity for developing new instruments in close cooperation with the best-known musicians of the French school of wind instruments. Musicians we have worked with include Romain Guyot, Pascal Moragus and Guy Deplus.
Endowed with rich harmony and a unique sonority, the Tosca clarinets timbre and fullness are exceptional.
Its ease of response and flexibility and its high level of comfort are qualities that distinguish it from other clarinets, and that constitute the very essence of this clarinet, part of the R 13 bore family.
It is available in Bb, A and Eb, in grenadilla wood or in the Green LinE composite material.

Lohff & Pfeiffer comments to the model
The Buffet Crampon Tosca was the first newly designed model in the new topline of professional Buffet clarinets. It is part of the R13 family. Today it is available as A, Bb, Eb, and Bass.

The bore of the A and Bb in the lower joint end is narrower than all other Buffet models and continues with a considerable step first inside the bell. The Tosca bore design improves the focus in general and the stability in the high register in particular. Consequently, the instrument has a higher resistance, which can nicely be compensated with the use of a more open mouthpiece. The sound of the Tosca is always dark, well carried, controlled and very elegant.

The narrow bore causes the low F and E to be lower than usual. Therefore, an additional F correction key has been added. For players who wish an even sharper F or E, we can add an additional low E & F resonance mechanism. See Low E-F correction.

Ergonomically the register-, A-, G#, and side keys have been redesigned, which is preferred by many.
This model comes with the left hand Eb/Ab key.

The Tosca is available in unstained, polished African blackwood or in Greenline, a wise choice if you are worried about cracks. To reduce the risk of cracking, Lohff & Pfeiffer offer the tone hole crack prevention for all wooden instruments as an option
See also: LP Tone hole crack prevention.

Like all small-bore instruments, it does have some resistance and allows the use of more open mouthpieces. It can be combined nicely with R13, R13 Prestige, Legend, Festival, Tradition, Legende, and Vintage.
