About the model
Research and development is both a rigorous and creative process. In collaboration with our workshops and internationally renowned clarinetists, Paul Meyer worked on the research project for developing new acoustics, resulting in the Divine clarinet. This model benefits from having the same hole placement as the Tosca model which allows for better intonation in every register. The improved bore favors flexible register-crossing and freer blowing during the most demanding pieces. The Divine clarinet comes with two barrels 65mm (442hz) and 66mm (440hz) which fit with both the Bb and the A model. The Divine is made of grenadilla wood with specific upper joint Green Line tone-hole slots eliminating air leaks on tone-holes most prone to crack. The carbon wire (a Buffet Crampon patent), which replaces the metal rings, makes the clarinet 60 grams lighter and thus contributes to its exceptional balance with greater vibration and freer blowing. As with the Tosca model, the Divine clarinets are equipped with a low F correction key. New keywork and spatulas enhance the clarinet???s ergonomics without destabilizing the musician???s capabilities. Whereas the Tosca clarinet was the R 13 bore???s top range model, the Divine features the Buffet Crampon RC bore???s latest evolution. This new range of clarinet represents a major step forward in Buffet Crampon???s history, by fusing technical expertise with unparalleled craftsmanship in French wind instrument manufacturing.

The Buffet Crampon Elite was probably unique and adventurous clarinet ever build. Designed for and with Michel Arignon, Buffet went completely new ways and opened a Pandora box of possibilities. ,br>
The clarinet was made out of the finest African blackwood and turned to a very slim body, to reduce weight and improve response. To improve the intonation and to get the different registered better in tune, they prolonged many tone-holes to compensate for the short tone-hole chimneys, caused by the thin body.

To achieve an even lower weight, all metal-rings had been replaced by Carbone fiber rings, to give the n- now very thin wooden receivers- enough stability to hold.

The Elite clarinet had during their existence gone through several design changes. Some Bb clarinets had an extended lower-joint, to get the E/B and F/C better in tune. Some of these instruments had a connection mechanism from the register-key all the way down to a low E correction key. This prolonged lower -joint made it impossible to put it in anything but the original case. A and Bb had the same length. Strangely the A was never equipped with this mechanism.

The pads had resonators, which helped to increase the response as well.

The thin body required a completely new key design, which resulted in a very high price, at the time.

The Elite is probably the fastest responding clarinet ever build. Unfortunately, because of its lightweight, responsible for this response, players often got the impression, that the sound was not big enough and the instrument wouldn’t carry well enough. But this is just a personal impression a player will experience. The lower mass results in less vigorous vibrations on his teeth and the player will consequently experience a smaller sound. But that’s not the case for the audience.
At Lohff and Pfeiffer we always kept a large number of Elite clarinets in stock. Buffet provided us long after the official deadline with instruments until the last keys have been used. We still have some instruments in stock and get occasionally used one in, which we then completely restore, including the often needed, bore Restauration.
